About Wayboard
Wayboard is a packing list app that builds your list from where you're going, how you get there and who's coming. It keeps the documents you can't forget in sight, and ends with a final check at the door.
Who makes it
Wayboard is an independent app. We make the apps, this website and its blog, and we read every email sent to hello@wayboard.app.
How your list is made
Your list starts from your trip: where you're going and when, the weather there, how you travel, where you stay, what you'll do and who's coming. Each person gets what they need. Change the trip and the list follows, keeping every change you made yourself.
Where the facts come from
- Weather: for the next nine days, the forecast from MET Norway, Norway's national weather service. Further ahead, what the weather actually did on the same dates in the last two years, from NASA's POWER project.
- Places and airports: places from GeoNames, and airports from OurAirports, updated every week: about 4,000 airports with scheduled flights.
- Plugs, voltage, currency, driving side and emergency numbers: gathered by us for 121 countries, from national sources, the ISO currency standard and reference sites, and checked against each other.
- Passports and travel authorizations: passport validity rules, travel authorizations such as the United States' ESTA, and the places where a national ID card is enough, like the EU or Mercosur. The passport rules lean strict, since airlines often apply the strictest reading. We review the travel authorizations every three months, and each one links to its official site.
- Visas: Wayboard doesn't decide whether you need one. It tells you what to check, and links to the official sites.
How the blog is written
Each post is one trip, in one place and season, with the list that goes with it. Temperatures are the month's climate averages. Entry rules, plugs and money are checked against official sources when a post is written, and phrased as checks, since they change. The photos are credited on each post.
How Wayboard is paid for
By Premium, sold in the apps through the App Store and Google Play. Some to-dos, like travel insurance or an eSIM, also suggest a few companies, and so do some posts. When one of them pays Wayboard a commission, the page says so, and your price is the same. They're never on documents, entry rules or health, and Premium turns them off in the app. There are no ad networks.
