It depends on the trip. For a quick list from the weather and your activities: PackPoint or Packr. For a checklist you build and share: Packing List Checklist. For packing by bag on Apple devices: Pack, Repeat. For suggestions from AI: the new AI apps. For several stops, each person’s needs, and entry documents together: Wayboard, which we make.
The story
Wayboard makes this blog and one of the apps below; who we are is on the About page. What we say about the other apps comes from their own App Store and Google Play pages and websites, read on September 30, 2026.
You’re planning ten days in Lisbon and Porto in April: you, your partner, and your seven-year-old, with a train between the two cities. You try the same trip in each kind of app.
In a list generator, you type Lisbon, your dates, and the nights, pick sightseeing, and a list appears in seconds, with an umbrella because the forecast shows rain. It’s the fastest start. Porto, and who each item is for, are up to you, unless the app handles several stops and travelers, as Packr and Pack, Repeat do.
In a checklist app, you pick items from categories such as Clothing and Toiletries, and the list is exactly what you chose. You send your partner a link, and they check things off in a browser. You do the thinking; the app remembers it for next time.
In an AI app, you describe the trip, suggestions arrive (sunscreen, a rain jacket), and you keep or skip each one. It’s quick, and the apps are new: most have only a handful of ratings.
In Wayboard, you sign in first, then add both stops, the train, the two stays, and the three of you. Each of you gets what you need, and the Don’t forget card lists the three passports, with Portugal’s rule: valid at least three months after you leave the Schengen area.
Every kind of app gets you a list. What changes is how much of your trip it knows: one city or several, one list or one per person, the clothes or the documents too.

PackPoint
PackPoint builds the list from a city, your dates, the forecast, and your activities, allowing for business trips, trips abroad, and laundry; a $2.99 Premium upgrade adds TripIt import, your own items, and sharing, says its website. It suits a quick list for one destination, on iPhone or Android. Its iPhone version was last updated on September 19, 2023, and its App Store page notes that it closes on opening under iOS 27, with a fix on the way; the Android app was updated on March 7, 2026. Ratings: 4.7 from 2,455 on the US App Store, and 4.4 from 42,091 on Google Play in the US, with over a million downloads.
Packr
Packr builds the list from your destination, dates, the forecast, and dozens of activities, and learns from your past trips. It sorts items by bag, filters them by traveler, has a family mode and lists for pets, and works offline; trips with several stops and TripIt import are Premium ($2.99 a month, says its website). It suits families and trips with several stops. It syncs once you sign in with Apple on iPhone and iPad, and with Premium on Android. Ratings: 4.6 from 7,108 on the US App Store; its Google Play page shows more than 1,000 downloads and no rating yet. Both apps were updated on September 23, 2026.
Packing List Checklist
Packing List Checklist doesn’t build the list from the trip: you pick suggested items by category, then reuse your lists, each with a To-Do and a To Pack section. Share one by link, and others check items off in their browser, with no app or account. It syncs through iCloud, works offline, and has no ads, on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch (with Premium). It suits people who know what they pack. It’s free for your first trips, then $1.49 a month, $9.99 a year, or $12.99 once. Ratings: 4.7 from 6,369 on the US App Store. Updated on July 31, 2026.
Pack, Repeat
Pack, Repeat starts from more than 400 items, from AI starter lists and weather suggestions that you review, or from a copy of a past trip. It packs by bag or by traveler, handles several stops, shows the plug you’ll need, keeps tickets and PDFs with the trip, and syncs and shares through iCloud, with no account. It suits Apple users who repeat the same kinds of trips. Premium is $3.99 a week, $4.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $59.99 once. Ratings: 4.6 from 89 on the US App Store. Updated for iOS 27 on September 14, 2026.
The new AI apps
Several new apps write the list with AI, among them journeybot, PackGoat, Packalong, and Packwise. You say where, when, and what you’ll do; most read the forecast, and journeybot, PackGoat, and Packalong make their suggestions on the phone itself; two of them, journeybot and Packalong, need no account. The extras vary: journeybot flags power banks before airport security, PackGoat adds up your bag’s weight, and Packwise’s page says it flags visa requirements and vaccinations. They suit a fast first draft that you then review. They’re new: on the US App Store, journeybot has 10 ratings (4.8), PackGoat 4 (4.3), Packalong 1, and Packwise none yet, with 37 (4.8) on Google Play in the US; all four were updated in 2026. Most start free, with limits; paid plans range from weekly ones ($1.99 to $3.99) to one-time prices ($7.99 to $39.99).
Wayboard
Wayboard builds the list from the whole trip: each stop with its own transport and stay, the weather, what you’ll do, and who’s coming, each with their own needs. The Don’t forget card keeps documents, money, and keys in sight, with entry rules for 121 countries (passport validity, travel authorizations such as the ESTA, and where an ID card is enough); for visas, it says what to check and links to the official sites. A Final check at the door goes through the essentials, and changing the trip never undoes your edits. Sync, backup, export, and deleting your account are free, and lists work offline, on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web. It suits whoever packs for a family or for several stops. More in how Wayboard works.
Its limits: it’s new, with no ratings yet; it needs an account (Apple, Google, or a code sent by email); countries beyond the 121 get the list without their rules; saved travel companions and packing a trip together are Premium; widgets, a document vault, and bookings from email are still coming; and the app is in English and Portuguese for now. Building and checking the list is free, for any number of trips and with anyone added to a trip; Premium adds saved companions, more than two reusable lists, and packing a trip together with up to 3 or 6 people, at the price the app shows in your store’s currency. Some to-dos, like travel insurance, suggest a few companies; Premium turns them off.
Good to know
- Offline: open the list in airplane mode before you rely on it at the gate. Packr, Packing List Checklist, Pack, Repeat, and Wayboard say they work offline.
- Sync and backup: check how your lists reach a new phone. iCloud (Packing List Checklist, Pack, Repeat, journeybot, and PackGoat with Pro) works between Apple devices; Packr syncs after you sign in with Apple, or with Premium on Android; Wayboard syncs through its account; Packalong keeps trips on the device.
- Export and deletion: Packr prints and exports, Packwise exports a PDF, PackPoint’s Android app exports with Premium, and Wayboard exports everything and deletes your account for free. On Google Play, the Data safety section says whether you can ask for your data to be deleted.
- Privacy labels: the App Store’s App Privacy section lists what an app collects, and whether it’s used to track you. Packr’s and Packwise’s list data used to track you; the other apps here list only data not linked to you. Wayboard’s apps have no ad networks or trackers.
- Last update: all the apps here were updated in 2026, except PackPoint’s iPhone version (September 2023). The App Store shows the date under Version History, and Google Play under “Updated on.”
- Languages: PackPoint, Packr, Packing List Checklist, Pack, Repeat, and journeybot come in Spanish and Portuguese; PackGoat and Packalong in English; Wayboard in English and Portuguese.
- Prices: the ones above are the US stores’, in US dollars. Your country’s store shows its own prices, in your currency, and its own ratings.
